Metastatic malignant melanoma in bone marrow: importance of aspiration cytology

Summary
Malignant melanoma metastasis was detected in the bone marrow of a 14-year old female patient. Despite the negative results obtained by conventional screening methods, cytologic examination of the bone marrow aspirate revealed scattered atypical melanocytes and cytochemistry and immunocytochemistry supported the diagnosis.
